So I am looking to upgrade CPU's, however I don't yet want to do the trinity of having to replace MOBO and Ram, so I'm wanting to upgrade from my 3900X to either a 5700X3D or a 5900X but I'm not quite sure which would be the best option so here are my like use cases and my current build: Gaming Video Editing in Davinci Resolve and sometimes Clip Champ just because its nice to have for quick things Streaming Video watching Substance Painting VRChat models Unity for uploading VRChat avatars My current PC build is a: Ryzen 9 3900X EVGA FTW3 2080(Considering upgrading to a 3070 or a 3080 if I can find a good deal on the used marketplace) 32Gbs of 3200mhz DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Ram A Cooler master 212 Halo that I bought out of emergency because my AIO died lol and I have an 850 watt psu
Consider retaining the 3900X or switching to a higher-end GPU if needed

I think a full system upgrade isn't necessary since you mainly use VR games. Focusing on a GPU with plenty of VRAM makes more sense. The RX7900 is affordable right now, and the upcoming RX9070 will be soon. For general VR performance, the 7900 offers excellent value. There are whispers about a 32GB version of the 9070, but it probably won't be well priced. If you still want a CPU upgrade, consider the 5700X3D or 5800X3D—those 3D caches significantly boost gameplay. Your current AM4 setup is still solid, so jumping to AM5 now isn't urgent; better options will emerge before any major changes. VR capability remains a key focus.
For gaming and content creation, use the 5700x3d to boost average FPS in certain titles. Make sure you verify which games you play beforehand. Generally it works well for most, though not every game benefits. If you also do content creation, opt for the 5900x—it’s better suited for video editing and streaming. Ultimately it depends on your needs. Remember that when your GPU improves, the 5700x3d will match it more effectively, helping you get the most out of the new hardware.
