I purchased a 4GB RAM HP laptop and am really impressed with it. I’m not a gamer, just someone who uses YouTube and Google occasionally. I noticed Windows 10 uses more RAM than Windows 8, especially when I first tried it. Anyone have tips or tricks to reduce Windows 10’s memory usage? I won’t be changing the physical RAM or adjusting virtual memory settings. Thanks in advance.

Besides reducing background programs I don't believe there is a huge amount. I'd suggest a lightweight antivirus and then having as little things running at start up. Don't disable things that seem important such as audio services. If you need help you can send a picture of the start up using the snipping tool (hit windows key and type snip then hit enter and it should load up). https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2944...-10-a.html

Perform a fresh installation of Windows to remove HP's excess features, and think about installing an additional 4GB drive later. 4GB is quite limited for today's tasks.

You can handle 4GB easily on YouTube and browsing. I replaced the old hard drives with SSDs on my parents' laptops, both with 4GB RAM—everything is working perfectly now. I did a fresh Windows installation and removed some unnecessary apps that came with Windows, like Solitaire. I also switched to using Edge Chromium as my browser; it uses memory efficiently and performs better than Chrome in many ways. It's even more efficient than Chrome, though they share the same foundation. With OEM devices such as HP, it's a good idea to check for unnecessary bloatware since they often install extra software.

Check your laptop details from the support page. The RAM is not soldered and there are two slots available. Task Manager indicates this.

Consider a full system reset of Windows. It provides two choices: remove everything or reinstall while preserving your data. Would you need the first choice if you selected option number 2 about a week ago, especially since many unnecessary programs remain?

Use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to generate a bootable USB drive. Keep the CD key ready if you need it (MJB can assist locating it). Install only the necessary components for browsing the internet—avoid adding Java, Flash, Shockwave, Air, Visual Studio runtimes unless required later. Open appwiz.cpl, select "Turn Windows features on or off," and disable any software you’re not using, such as Internet Explorer 11, PDF conversion tools, or Microsoft Print to PDF.

You're unsure about two slots, but the linked document indicates they are definitely removable or expandable.

If you need to use Wibdows options, it's best to reinstall from the beginning rather than keeping existing files.

New setup, even better to remove partitions for extra safety
