I’m planning to assemble a PC for my grandpa soon. I don’t want Windows 10 because it won’t receive updates anymore, and it’ll be power-limited (around 3400 or 4600 watts). I need to simplify things—remove tools like Copilot, swap the bloated Notepad for Notepad++, etc. I’ve considered changing explorer.exe to the Windows 10 version, removing Edge, replacing Task Manager with SysInternals’ fix, and updating Notepad. Anyone have advice on how to get Copilot out or make these changes?

This project starts with a standard ISO format. I’m actually testing the Enterprise G ISO version that’s circulating online. I ran Malwarebytes and Kaspersky on it, and no malware was detected, so it seems safe enough. For everyday users, Defender would be a better choice, as it offers solid protection. The main issue is that this is still Windows 11, which feels outdated compared to older systems. Things like scroll bars and rounded corners are still present, and even MSPaint has been heavily changed—losing its speed and intuitive design. It’s not GIMP, and it doesn’t perform well for basic tasks. This version seems to have lost many of its original strengths.

1) You don't need to replace the explorer or remove Edge for a more reliable experience for your grandpa. The only apps that might be safely deleted are the app apps, which can be removed using DISM++.
2) ChrisTitusTech's Windows PowerShell script will assist with certain tasks.

These aren't really meant to keep up the stock Win11 for a senior citizen. Avoid any interference and try not to create additional issues later.

Do you believe my grandfather has more worthwhile activities than fixing his bash profile for two days? He’s not the type like some distant relatives.

It's not clear what the grandpa requires, but after installing the system he can operate any program simply by clicking on it, just as with Windows...

I’d prefer not to see your grandpa constantly drive a modified version of Windows. It only adds more confusion, especially if he tries to mimic someone else’s steps and misinterprets what he sees. Windows 11 should work smoothly on a 3400 or 4600G. The best advice would be to install at least 8GB of RAM—it’ll improve performance significantly, though it might not be ideal. If you really want to remove everything from Windows, consider the Linux alternative as suggested by @PDifolco.

In that scenario, Grandpa would fare better on CP/M or OS/2... You'd also be able to install ArcaOS.

He relies on Microsoft Office and I prefer it so he doesn’t need to use Wine. Plus, I think he wouldn’t enjoy learning LibreOffice.
