Hey everyone! Trying to figure what are the best options for packing the most power into a SFF build and wanted to know what boards are highly recommend. There aren't too many options from what it seems as far as mini-itx goes and the reviews can be varying so its hard to get a good idea on which ones are good quality or not. I am coming from an ATX and only ever used ATX for all my prior builds so this is a new experience for me and I know there are some trade offs in using this form factor. I am using a 5950x and just want something that still allows to have almost the same amount of quality features in my ATX board like M.2 slot(s), high capacity ram support, and great ethernet and onboard audio. Thanks!

I also understand Asus offers the Crosshair VIII Impact, a Mini-DTX variant. I'm unsure if it's superior to the Asus ROG Strix X570-I gaming model. The case I plan to use is a Meshlicious, which should accommodate a Mini-DTX board as well.

The B550i Aorus Pro AX offers the top rear IO performance among B550 models. I own one with a 5950x at 4.55ghz, featuring all-core 5050mhz boost and a stable VRM. It stays cool under load, making it hard for anyone to justify needing x570 features on an ITX form factor. The main difference between ITX variants lies in the chipset: x570 provides two 4.0 m.2 slots but sacrifices some B550 capabilities, while B550 retains a single 4.0 m.2 and a 3.0 slot. x570 demands active cooling for its chipset, whereas B550 is more modern with improved memory support for higher speeds and overclocking. It also supports faster 2.5Gb LAN. There are only a few decent ITX options—mainly from Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. I recommend choosing either Gigabyte or Asus; they both outperform MSI in my opinion. Avoid the MSI model because its CMOS button is hidden behind the rear IO shield, requiring a custom switch removal to access it. I nearly purchased the Strix B550-I twice. I could still consider it. Or maybe the Giga would work better. I wasn't too impressed with the assrock and didn't really like MSI in general. Some of those newer X570 boards feature a quicker memory option similar to the B550. I'll explore those further later.

After reviewing everything, I’m leaning toward the B550i Aorus Pro AX. The fanless design is a big advantage, and it seems the other models have some cooling and noise issues. This one looks like the best fit for what I need. Thanks!

I’m not suggesting I’d purchase one, but... the latest Tough gaming x570 pro offers memory support up to 5100 and lacks a chipset fan, whereas the previous model supported up to 4400 and had a fan. That’s what I was referring to when I mentioned the new x570.

Certainly, the latest updates to x570 are quite appealing. For some time now, many people still prefer B550 due to its better quality boards. However, ITX offers limited options. It seems this simplifies the decision-making process, letting you choose based on your requirements.
