zen(+) has some issues. For over 3200 cores you’ll need tuning. Zen2/3 CPUs (Matisse, Vermeer) handle ~3800 at full speed or ~5000 at 2:1. Zen 2 APUs (Renoir) can manage 4400-4600 at 1:1, while Zen 3 APUs (Cezzane) reach ~5000 at 1:1 if you skip tuning and don’t stick with the standard 3200/3600/18 kits. Avoid 3600/16-19-19 or similar that lack straight 16 primaries—they’re wasteful and don’t deliver much benefit unless you’re aiming for maximum performance. Stick to Samsung Bee, usually available in 3200/3600/4000c14/15, 4400/19-19-19, or 3600/16-16-16 models. Buying expensive kits like 3600 16-19-19 is not worth it unless you’re targeting top speeds and have a budget for them. For 16GB RAM, 8Gb ISCs aren’t ideal at this level; dual-rank kits usually perform better. Unless you’re going for 32GB, don’t go with Bee—opt for Samsung M378A1G43EB2, which is dual-rank and affordable. 4Gbit dies are fine for non-APUs, but dual-rank options still edge out them. For HMA41gu6afr8n, Hynix 4Gbit DDR4 works too, though ranks don’t matter much beyond gear2/2:1 clock speeds. Boosting to quad sticks isn’t a big deal for APUs except for high-end models like Unify or older Gigabyte/ASRock boards.

For versions other than X3D at 3200MHz, performance remains solid but not outstanding. Above that point, it often becomes unnecessary unless you secure a particularly good offer. With X3D, especially with the 5800X3D, higher frequencies deliver better results. It focuses more on frequency than timing. In a four-stick setup, my x570 Steel Legend from AsRock reaches its limit around 4000MHz before stability problems appear. Using two sticks pushes it to about 4400MHz at certain settings, though performance drops noticeably—especially with demanding games like Sniper Elite 5, ACC, or Cyberpunk 2077, which heavily rely on RAM (many of them heavily modified). It seems 32GB is insufficient, particularly with heavily modded Cyberpunk 2077. I also observed that it took longer to recover from typical Cities Skylines II crashes when using larger cities, possibly indicating it was designed for Threadrippers and large memory capacities.
