Next summer I intend to purchase a processor for my RX 570 that will boost the FPS and gaming performance to match what I currently enjoy. With a 165Hz monitor, I aim for around that frame rate. If you're willing to invest more, what would be the top option? Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 or similar would likely deliver better results.
There's no real answer to that question. CPU performance isn't generally bound by GPU performance. As long as the CPU is fast enough to run the game, it is good enough. There's certainly a minimum CPU requirement to reach high FPS with a fast enough GPU, but there's not much benefit getting anything faster. You could probably get away with an AMD 3600x (and obviously any CPU that is faster).
