Top improvements for older machines
I’m not creating a new system meant to replace this HP Compaq. My current laptop already performs well and handles my games smoothly. I’m only interested in upgrading this one for personal enjoyment and to give my brother a gaming machine, since his devices are outdated. Looking ahead, the computer I plan to build will be very powerful and tailored to my needs. The processor is definitely something I could improve. There are many 775 LGA Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Quads available, so I’m confident it can handle a Core 2 Quad. I’m not certain about the motherboard’s capacity beyond FSB speed, but I don’t see any major obstacles. A Core 2 Duo should work fine for this setup. Installing a low-profile GPU shouldn’t be too challenging. I plan to play SimCity Societies on it, and so far it seems to function adequately—though I haven’t tried the big city yet. For now, upgrading the processor isn’t essential, but I’m still figuring out what GPU options suit me best.
I possess it and it comes with a budget card, which means it works best at medium settings. However, some games allow higher or lower levels, and it’s just a bit taller than the PCI opening.
Ensure your system has sufficient RAM to run the game smoothly. Verify that the motherboard chipset is compatible with a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad processor. A MX100 SSD paired with a GTX 750 should provide solid performance in most titles. (With a core 2 Quad)
The GTX 750 won’t fit properly. Its height is 4.376 inches, while the largest card I can insert here is just under 3 inches. Upgrading to an SSD might work because the device uses SATA technology.
It won’t improve performance in games or other programs either. An SSD would be the top upgrade option for this device, though I might think about it later.
