He wants to transfer his current Windows 10 installation from a regular drive to an SSD without reinstalling it. He’s concerned about getting Windows 10 for free and doesn’t have the option to buy it right now, especially since he needs it for games. He’s looking for a free method to move the files from his old drive to the SSD.

Identify what you want to clone and where to place it. Copy the partition to match the SSD size, then move the cloned data from the first drive to the second one.

We attempted it, but it appears the service isn't available for data migration.

With Macrium Reflect, you can clone without copying the entire HDD if you only need the OS. For Disk Management, you may need more steps like shrinking partitions to fit an SSD before using dd. The phrase about copying from one drive to another is a bit unclear—please clarify your process so I can assist properly.

For the OS, perform a clean install on the SSD. Either transfer all data from the C drive (and related files) or leave it empty. Does Disk Management allow resizing a partition? You must ensure it matches the SSD size or is smaller than it.

It wouldn't function because the storage medium isn't compatible. Cloning to an SSD would fail due to differences in interface and data handling compared to traditional storage.
