Hey everyone, the top free antivirus for Windows 8.1 is Windows Defender. It’s reliable and works well without extra downloads beyond what you already have.

You can turn off the defender feature, as it seems you can't have both running at once. Also, AVG is a solid choice right now.

I learned about it from someone else. It’s working smoothly with no problems, and I’ve been using it for about six months now. Some people think AVG might be better, but whatever suits you works best.

I was consistently advised that during my early years I should install AVG, and I believe I managed to keep Windows Defender functional as well, provided I had additional antivirus protection.

Avoid risky places and untrusted downloads; Malwarebytes usually suffices, though it's safer to stay cautious and use free options when available.

I mainly use it for streaming, gaming, and some office tasks. Windows Defender should not significantly slow you down.

It varies based on your configuration; sharing details helps. However, antivirus isn't a major factor in performance delays.
