I own a PC at home with a Plex server running an i7-6700K and 32GB RAM. I’ve shared my movie and TV library with friends and family, so the server frequently transcodes and streams content online. This process is demanding, especially when handling high resolutions like 4K and converting from HDR to SDR. I’m wondering if switching to an AMD Ryzen processor such as the Ryzen 7 2700X would noticeably improve performance during heavy transcoding tasks. Anyone with experience running a Plex server that handles lots of transcoding can share their insights on how AMD and Intel manage resources differently? Thanks!

AMD processors offer better value compared to Intel for equivalent performance. The R7 2700X performs significantly faster than the i7 6700K and is roughly 70% quicker than the current i5 9600K at a similar cost.
