The topic is clear. Which CPU performs best for MD5 hash calculations? Should ECC be included? This comes up because of verification tools like Arcserve Imagemanager that rely on MD5 checks. It doesn’t support GPU acceleration, though feedback has been sent to improve that. Performance seems limited to single-core tasks, requiring manual verification of large files. Any opinions?

MD5 hashing will face performance limits mainly due to disk speed rather than CPU power. Most CPUs can handle one-threaded MD5 tasks unless you push high throughput demands.

Fascinating. It makes sense to achieve full performance from one thread at the moment. Surprising that the NAS remains the bottleneck.
