I'm not in the mood to cool my CPU just yet, but I'm wondering which cooler would be best for my rig if I use it for gaming, mining, and overclocking.
Which motherboard are you using? This frequently influences your ability to overclock.
The Hyper 212 evo from Cooler Master is a top choice near $25. It typically runs overclocked between 4.1GHz and 4.2Ghz with stable temperatures. You also mine cryptocurrencies, but increasing the CPU won't help your mining efforts—it might even cost you money due to higher power consumption. For gaming, it should provide a noticeable performance boost.
What kind of motherboard are you using? That usually affects how much overclocking you can achieve.
NotIrishMichael shared his thoughts on the Hyper 212 evo from Cooler Master, noting its solid cooling performance and average overclock potential. He mentioned it runs well between 4.1GHz and 4.2Ghz with good temps, though he found CPU overclocking less beneficial for mining due to increased power usage. For gaming, he expected a noticeable boost. When compared to the Noctua NH-D15 SSO2, the Hyper 212 evo offers similar cooling but may not match its price point or specific features.
What I've heard about that cooler is mostly positive. It costs more than the 212 Evo, but the added price provides better performance and quieter operation. Regarding the motherboard, you can use CPUZ to check which one you have.

I'm using the MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX).
A bit of extra info I have is that I’m not very familiar with your motherboard, but it seems people can get it to run at 4.4ghz, though anything over 4.5ghz tends to cause issues and instability. Still, maintaining a steady 4.5ghz would definitely give you a solid performance increase.
On the side, if you’re not keen on answering, I’m just mining ZCash personally.
This motherboard is really terrible. I wouldn't consider overclocking it. I definitely wouldn't install a tower cooler on it. It's known to slow down even when running at normal speeds without VRM cooling.
