I just added a 2080ti graphics card to my PC and played WoW. The performance is still slow, especially in open worlds or raids. I’m looking for a CPU that can handle WoW smoothly at high refresh rates. WoW isn’t optimized for multiple cores, even with recent updates meant to improve it. Most games tend to use just one core. I’m curious about what CPU would work best for WoW at 144fps in ultra mode back in 2020.
Check your system specs and consider additional details like storage setup, power delivery, and cooling. Let me know if you need help with anything specific!
48GB of RAM... Oh well, perhaps there are other reasons behind this. The CPU might not be sufficient for running WoW, which could point to driver issues. The simplest solution is a fresh Windows install and installing only GPU drivers, as Windows 10 usually handles everything automatically. If you're certain about the CPU, consider an AMD Ryzen 3700x. However, upgrading the CPU would require a new motherboard and possibly new RAM if the board uses DDR3. Don't forget the power supply and case—depending on their design. Or wait a few months for the 4000 series before making a full switch to a completely new system.
Heres a comparison - my Ryzen Rig 2 in sig, gets the exact same FPS as my buddy in open world raids/instanced raids as I do during intensive fights - he has a 9900k OCd and a 2080ti KINGPIN. The frame time required is also tied to network due to this being an online game. At some point, that's just the bottleneck.
