Hello, I own a B450M Steel Legend board with a Ryzen 3000 BIOS, and I have an R5 2600 CPU installed. Since I plan to produce YouTube content (not necessarily live), I'm looking for the optimal CPU choice based on experience. I'm aware of the limited VRM, but I really like this board (the BIOS took some time to get used to). Right now I have an ASUS TUF B550 motherboard and a 3700X in my Amazon cart (reviewed positively on Hardware Unboxed). If possible, I'd love to upgrade my current setup for better performance. You could use any CPU on the motherboard, though performance would be limited to lower clock speeds during heavy multitasking because of the weak VRM. In theory, the most powerful CPU compatible with your board is a 3700X or similar model. For details, refer to the motherboard's tier list.
Thanks for your prompt replies! The motherboard VRM tier list is really helpful. My setup is a quiet Base 600 mid tower with fans on both front and back. The CPU cooler is a Noctua NH-U12S. Just to clarify, I’m not aiming to overclock the CPU—I just want it to function smoothly at stock speeds without damaging the VRM. Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback. Given the modest jump from 2600 to 3600 MHz, I’m leaning toward the ASUS TUF B550 and 3700X. As mentioned, Hardware Unboxed enjoyed the board, even though some motherboards excelled—I favor the variety of USB ports.
