Top CPU choice for SLI setup
Top CPU choice for SLI setup
I'm considering upgrading my desktop for a 2-way SLI GTX 1080 setup. I'm aiming for top performance in gaming, video editing, and rendering. After researching, the i7-9700K seems like a solid choice, but I'm concerned about its 16 PCIe lanes. I've found the i7-9800X with 44 lanes as an alternative, which offers more flexibility. Since both processors are similar in price and I need to replace the motherboard and RAM, those won't be deciding factors. I also want two NVMe M.2 SSDs and need clarity on PCIe lane usage—some sources say 4 lanes each, but I'm unsure. Which one should I pick?
Reducing to 8 lanes using those GPUs won't have a major impact, so I'll go with 3700x. The additional lanes won't change much. Or wait until the end of this month and observe how 10th gen comet lake affects the desktop components. The NVMe SSDs will utilize the chipset PCIe lanes and won't interfere with the GPU. I'm also thinking about selling those GPUs and getting a single, faster one to avoid the sli issues.
These were the most affordable options I discovered for them in Norway (Norwegian sites): 9800X: https://www.digitalimpuls.no/intel/14523...48QAvD_BwE 9700K: https://www.power.no/data-og-tilbehoer/d...lsrc=aw.ds
The Ryzen 9 3900X is only slightly pricier than the Ryzen 7 3700X, yet it might be too much for a gaming setup. I’d likely choose the Ryzen 7 3700X instead, and a GTX 2080 Ti would probably be the ideal GPU choice. For AMD options, let me know if you have preferences!
