The 3100 holds its own in today's titles. Which games will dominate your playlist? Also, upgrades refer to improvements expected within about two years. The 1600AF has been out of production and limited stock for some time, though its single-threaded speed still lags behind the 3100.

It's not the case, but a $30 discount would make it worthwhile. The performance gap isn't significant enough to justify the extra cost. I didn't notice they halted production entirely, so a $3100 model seems like a reasonable option next.

That's accurate. The 3100 offers better speed according to the benchmark. I'd focus on games like Fortnite, Rocket League, Warzone, and Tomb Raider. There are plenty of popular titles available.
