The X570-I is priced just under $20 higher than the B550-I, yet I believe the value adds up, particularly for the VRM. The B550-I features a 4-phase VRM with 45/50A DrMOS power stages, while the X570-I matches the Crosshair VIII Impact’s 70A smart power stages. Given the likely compact ITX enclosure, I’d opt for the extra $20 to ensure superior power delivery. It doesn’t mean the B550-I can’t handle a 3950X, but when pushed to overclock or PBO it will probably generate more heat than the X570-I.

You're right to question that. It seems the setup might not match the 6617 reference. Double-checking confirms it doesn't fit. Apologies for the mix-up. Let me know if you need further clarification.

ASUS avoids using double buffers. They have some unusual phase counts due to the lower-end controllers they employ, though their VRMs remain quite strong, particularly on premium boards. Regardless, the power delivery on the B550-I supports a 3950X and generates more heat than the X570-I, though not enough to noticeably impact other components.
