Hello, I'm starting to assemble a new PC and am considering B550 mobos for better future compatibility. I've seen ASRock's B550 Extreme4 but heard some negative feedback about its BIOS. Does this affect performance enough to make other brands more appealing? As a beginner, I don't have any specific preferences for the layout. If you know of any alternatives around the same price and design, please share them. Thanks!
Have you checked out the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk? It's a solid motherboard with a price near $180.
I agree, the Extreme4 has a better design, but it was my choice if any ASRock bugs remain.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But this is basically a steel legend with different looks. What cpu are you powering? Technically one of the best b550 boards is the gaming pro carbon, but that board is priced similarly to the x570 tomahawk. So it's immediately not worth it. There's also the b550 taichi. But that's simply not Worth it as it's 300 bucks. The b550 tomahawk mag. B550 mortar. B550 steel legend. B550 a pro. B550 aorus pro. B550 strix f. Are all Decent. One of the cheaper b550 boards like the pro 4 is also decent. If you're powering a 6 or even an 8 core. Consider b450 as well. The tomahawk max. Mortar max. A pro max (non m). Pro 4. Pro vdh max. Are all capable of handling an 8 core.
They're very similar, the main change being that Extreme4 models have power and reset buttons built into the board. I'm using an R7 3700x and agree most Extreme4/Steel versions are top-tier mobos. I've heard some ASRock boards have BIOS issues, so I wanted to confirm if anyone with B550s had similar problems. I'm thinking about switching to a B450 to avoid frequent upgrades, but I'm not sure if it's worth it if the B550 still works well for me.
Yes, that's correct. As a beginner in PC building, you probably won’t need frequent BIOS updates. Upgrading to an Ex4 should be manageable, though you might still want to check with MSI later.
