crunchbang is a pretty lightweight debian distro since it runs with a minimum with 100MB of RAM being idle, though i seriously find a way to at least upgrade the ram on that thing either way

It doesn't work that way; you don't need to load the OS from a USB drive. It functions more like a Linux live CD.
