Hey everyone, I'm looking for the best operating system for a home server. It'll be used by three Windows desktops and two MacBooks. Mainly for NAS functions, but also as a media server for Jellyfin. I'd also like to use it as an ingest station for physical media going into Jellyfin. Any suggestions or insights would be great. I know if you're running Jellyfin on Truenas, you need to use Scale instead of Core. Also, does anyone know if it supports reading DVDs from a 5.25-inch drive? Thanks all!

It seems no native nas structure accommodates rom drives since it's mainly for reading and writing data, not showing it. You'd need to dual boot with another system that supports video/audio codecs.

Scale runs on Linux and works with 5.25" DVD readers smoothly. TrueNAS Scale is a Linux distribution designed for NAS purposes, offering the same support as standard Linux.
