Pfsense offers extensive customization options, yet it functions effectively as a straightforward, pre-configured firewall—one of the most reliable I've encountered. Tek Syndicate produced a setup and walkthrough video a few years ago that I still find useful, though it may be a bit old now.
The only alternatives I recall are Opnsense and ClearOS, though I have no prior knowledge of them and therefore can't suggest anything about them.
