In short, it’s not quite the same. First of all, compatibility matters a lot. Windows 7 consistently leads in supporting games, programs, and devices compared to other Windows versions. When it comes to security, there are serious concerns—Microsoft’s Secure Boot keys have been exposed, and recent updates have caused unexpected issues. File settings often reset randomly in Windows 10, and the system tends to become more unstable with each new release. The OS seems to introduce more bugs as updates roll out, while Windows 10 has reintroduced the BSOD as a feature.

Microsoft’s reliance on community testing is far from replacing the expertise of professional engineers who were cut during the transition. Windows 7 remains steadier, dependable, and consistent. The shift to Windows 10 feels like a major change in direction, with a different company behind it and a new approach to design and quality.

There’s a lot of criticism about the changes—new management, altered business models, and a drop in testing standards. Many feel Microsoft is moving away from its original standards, focusing more on speed and profit rather than craftsmanship. Windows 10 feels less polished and more erratic compared to its predecessors.

The comments section highlights these differences, showing why some users prefer older versions like Windows 7 or 8, which were built with better support and reliability. If you need smooth gameplay without hassle, Windows 7 is the clear choice. But if you want the widest compatibility and a more stable experience, it’s worth sticking with it.

For those seeking nostalgia, Windows 7 offers the best balance of features and stability. For modern gaming, Windows 10 still works, but it comes with more instability and fewer guarantees.

Express your frustration elsewhere. I won’t repeat my thoughts about Windows 10 that many times again.

The information remains clear without needing to sound like a complaint. Because you challenged what I presented as unsupported and misleading, I felt it necessary to address the issue directly. Here’s an objective summary of why your expectations don’t match the actual Windows 10 experience: You provided no concrete examples to back up your claims, only vague assertions that needed proof.

DX12 and UWP cover most features that worked on Windows 7 as well, even without explicit support notices for Windows 10. While more games and programs are now tailored specifically for Windows 10, the operating system still offers improved visuals and enhanced performance during gaming. Its modular design simplifies updates, ensuring long-term stability—unlike older versions such as 7 and 8, which often lose support after three years. Any reported issues on Windows 10 usually stem from incomplete or rushed installations rather than inherent flaws. A clean installation guarantees optimal functionality. Those familiar with PCs and OS upgrades understand that forcing changes isn't the solution; understanding how to use an OS properly is key. This upgrade represents a significant leap forward compared to previous iterations.

However, many people wish to listen to Delicieuxz's candid and straightforward views. It seems a full moon is involved, with a lot of pride circulating, which makes sense in reality. It’s helpful to be reminded of this. It’s easy to spot Microsoft’s direction by checking Office 365 subscriptions. I’m running Windows 7 Pro, but I believe upgrading to Windows 8 would work well, and applying a Windows 7 skin would be practical. Looking back, I should have created my own system so my Microsoft credentials and hardware would remain useful longer.

UWP isn’t seen as a benefit for regular users, and it actually limits choices. Most people wouldn’t want to use it unless the app they need is only available through the Windows Store and not elsewhere. The only Windows 10-exclusive titles I know of are those released by Microsoft, which seems to be the main reason for their exclusivity. I don’t know of anyone other than Microsoft creating games just for Windows 10. Unless someone is really into titles like Halo 5 or Forza 6 that come solely from Microsoft, UWP offers little value. DX12 will be missing without Windows 10, but Vulkan works across all Windows versions, starting from Windows XP. The visual changes in Windows 10 aren’t universally liked, and performance in games isn’t noticeably better on Windows 10 compared to older versions like Windows 7 or 8—except for DirectX 12. Still, many users face stability problems after a clean OS install, and the Anniversary Update is causing widespread issues. It’s clear that most IT, business, and home users see Windows 10 as an incomplete system, and the new testing approach isn’t meeting expectations. I’ve experienced these challenges firsthand, and my opinion comes from both personal experience and reading about common complaints in forums like Ars. My perspective also stems from noticing how much more restricted and complex Windows 10 has become compared to its predecessors, making it harder to manage data and maintain control.

In three and a half years from now, the situation will be similar to a full Windows operating system version. However, given the present condition of Microsoft quality assurance, many individuals and organizations are choosing to avoid updates rather than risk their computers. For deeper understanding, check out the comments in this Ars article.

I've come across numerous articles discussing W10's approach to my latest PC purchase. It seems some questionable tactics are being used. Updates even reset security settings that were disabled during the OS installation. They intentionally do this. Their goal is to collect all your data for potential selling and exploitation, similar to how Google operates.

I've always preferred Windows 7, though that might just be because I've been using it for more than seven years. I switched to Windows 10 right before the last day the free upgrade was offered. I'm still not sure if I like it yet.
