You're looking for the optimal setup for your hardware without overspending. I'm ready to help. For your components—i5 12600K or KF, 2070 Super, GSKill Trident 3600 DDR4, and two M.2 SSDs—I’d recommend checking real-world reviews. MSI PRO B660M-A and MSI MAG B660 are solid choices, but ensure they match your budget. Let me know if you need more details!

Gather your preferences for motherboard features, budget, and then explore online reviews and comparisons to decide what fits best. Watch Hardware Unboxed and Level1Techs YouTube videos for insights on the B660 model, especially their explanation of VRM quality and CPU performance limits.

I'm also considering a 12600K for my son and wondering if a B660 or Z690 PCIe slot would be better. I've been familiar with AMD hardware for a while and haven't really thought about the limits of a B660, especially since I won't be overclocking the CPU—just adding E cores is enough compared to a 12400.

I initially thought about a Z690, though many suggest the 660 or 670 are sufficient. It really depends on whether you plan to overclock the CPU, which is possible only with the Z690. You might also consider the 12600KF—it's more affordable.
