I’m looking at the Ryzen 9 3900X and the newer 3950X. Which motherboard would give you the best performance and value for around $500? The Crosshair Hero VIII X570 is a solid pick, but some users mention OC challenges. My take is to go with the top-rated boards that support these CPUs well.

The $199 boards such as TUF or Gigabyte Elite work well. Your RAM will have a bigger impact on speed than the motherboard. GN is set to run the 3950X Ln2.

It seems there might be some confusion here. The usual temperature readings for the Elite's VRM are within normal ranges. The Aorus Pro appears to handle the 16-core setup better, but the exact numbers aren't clear from what you shared.

Crosshair Viii Hero remains a solid choice under 500, unless you can afford the extra 80 for the Formula. Aorus Master offers stronger performance, but their BIOS and RAM controller are well-known issues.

The Asrock Aqua is really unique, a limited edition 1K USD model, making it hard to gauge if it fits his budget. If it did, I’d definitely consider it. Also, the X570 Creator stands out as the non-watercooled motherboard with impressive specs.

The gigacooler might offer the most effective solution, paired with a VRMS dual cooling plate and maintaining low temperatures.
