Top choice for a 700 budget: best intel/mobo combo.
Hello everyone, usually I handle the research myself, but with family and work it gets tough. I’m assembling my brother’s PC – he’s new to computers but into gaming. I was considering the 9700k with the Asus hero, but wondered if that’s a bit too much for the motherboard. Around 700$ for both. Any other advice on builds would be great. Looking forward to getting a Samsung Evo drive, power supply still pending, and RAM not decided yet. I’ll go with a fan cooler since he isn’t tech-savvy. Thought an NHD-15 would work, but might be too much. Just a reminder this machine is all about gaming. Thanks!
Intel is losing ground to AMD, making AMD the clear winner. How much are you planning to invest?
It seems like AMD might be the better choice here. The 3700X offers a more affordable option compared to the 9700K, and swapping in a 3600 would likely provide similar performance without much hassle. If the Ryzen 4000 arrives, you could easily replace the old processor with the new one without needing additional upgrades.
For the motherboard CPU, 700. Many people talk about AMD. I’m open to switching to AMD if it helps. The benchmarks I’ve seen indicate the 9700 performs slightly better than the 3700. That’s another reason I thought this PC would just launch to Steam and the game would start quickly. Thanks again for your thoughts!
You've just acquired the i7 9700K with a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro and an NH-D15. If you decide to use that cooler, double-check the RAM and case space requirements. The NH-D15 model offers greater clearance, which is beneficial for performance builds. For gaming purposes, the i7 9700K is a solid choice, while the 3700X is better suited for gaming, productivity, or production tasks. The higher price of the 9700K depends on whether the slight increase in FPS justifies the cost for you.
