Occasionally, after hours of following the main plot, you'll stumble upon a random NPC marked with an "!" and it completely alters your journey. I wonder, "Wow... why wasn't this the central mission? I'd have spent 80 hours on just this story!" I'm curious about those side missions that stick with you longer than any main quest ever does. For me, it's Witcher 3, The Warble of a Smitten Knight. It's essentially about a man falling in love with a woman who hides a secret. It turns out she was cursed—actually, a wish turned bad—and at night she transforms into a bird-woman. She guides the player to a clearing in the woods, hoping he'll kill her. The player is also an oddity, so she accepts his help. But the cure leaves her with only a few years to live, matching the lifespan of a bird she now resembles. Once healed, she refuses his love. It's a compelling narrative.
I enjoyed seeing you step into the swamp village with that catchy soundtrack, feeling a sense of foreboding... Then the three crones show up and the music gets even more intense... Great!
I recall it was in the top 10. Oddly enough, the crones never succeeded for me. The idea existed, but I felt they lacked the growth I was expecting. They began as malevolent and stayed that way—never a chance for success or redemption.
The experience was quiet but intense, with a heavy sense of fear and darkness coming through the music and setting... It really stood out. I don’t recall much of the game now, even though I’ve played it four times, including with the DLCs. I’m planning a fifth time with the new GPUs and the updated version coming next year.
Absolutely, the vibe was ideal for that. I especially enjoyed a PlayStation game called "Legend of Dragoon" with a hidden secret boss. After gathering all 50 stardust scattered across the map, you had to press "X" through every area to reveal it. This boss was tougher than the final boss, had no status display, and constantly criticized your choices as you battled. It’s fascinating how the developers crafted such a tense, personal challenge that only a few players would face.
