Pick from Bioshock, Batman Arkham Asylum, City, Origins, Knight Metro 2033, LL Resident Evil 4, Dead Space 1 & 2, Ass Creed 1 & 2, Unity GTA IV & V, Sleeping Dogs Wolfenstien, Witcher 1-3, EYE Divine Cybermancy, Tomb Raider, Dark Souls 1 & 3.
For open-world narratives and action, GTA San Andreas, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, RPG titles like Chrono Trigger and Gothic 2, driving experiences such as Interstate 76, and third-person shooters including Max Payne 3 and MDK. For FPS games, Far Cry 1 and Duke 3D are recommended.
I’d probably feel confused if I had rushed into 3 straight from my own experience; I wouldn’t have managed to finish Mass Effect 3 without playing the other two. Both Mass Effect 1 and 2 are really worthwhile—great visuals and solid gameplay that gets better with time.
Series exploring biotic themes and urban narratives in distinct settings.
It was a decent older title, GTA Vice City was great. For newer options, Fallout 3 and 4 work well. I also enjoy Far Cry 3.
+1 Far Cry 3 is one of my top favorite missions. If you haven't gone through it even once, you're definitely missing out. +1 Witcher 2 and 3 are super fun, and of course, Modern Warfare 1 and 2 were some of my favorite COD experiences after MW3—I haven't finished a COD campaign since then...
Fallout 3 and Fallout 3: New Vegas offer great experiences for newcomers. Exploring randomly and completing tasks kept me engaged over several days. Fallout 4 feels like a natural progression, but the excitement of discovery has faded. Half-Life 1 and 2 (with extra episodes) deliver strong narratives and lengthy single-player adventures. Portal titles also shine, delivering clever gameplay and enjoyable puzzles. For those who favor adventure and puzzle games, Syberia and its sequels boast impressive visuals and engaging stories, with manageable challenges. The Longest Journey presents tougher puzzles and walkthroughs if needed, though the narrative was compelling at launch—especially considering its multi-CD release. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons offers a solid single-player experience, though it’s brief. Cave Story+ stands out as a charming platformer with pixel art, varied levels, and satisfying completion. If you enjoy side-scrolling or platformer titles, Super Meat Boy is worth a try (it’s challenging without controllers). Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite provide memorable long-form stories. Indigo Prophecy (now available on Steam as Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered) delivers an intriguing narrative. The Penumbra series—Penumbra: Black Plague, Overture, etc.—delivers atmospheric horror with puzzle elements. Made by the same developers behind Amnesia: The Dark Descent, they also crafted SOMA, praised for its thought-provoking story and single-player depth. Here’s a link to their developer page: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?de...Frictional Games. The Stalker series, while occasionally glitchy, boasts stunning visuals and immersive gameplay. Their horror titles are highly recommended. The developer behind these works also created SOMA, which offers a surprising conclusion worth revisiting. For modded experiences, consider Penumbra: Black Plague and the Requiem extension, Overture. The STALKER series deserves attention—especially with mods like STALKER SOC Complete or Clear Sky Complete, which enhance atmosphere and realism. Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite also shine with their engaging long-form narratives. If you appreciate turn-based strategy, check out Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4; they’re solid choices but benefit from some pre-game preparation.
It's a really great title with very positive feedback on Steam.
