I plan to switch from a HDD to an SSD that matches or exceeds its size. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and want to back up my system and create a clone image for transferring to the new drive whenever possible. I’m not planning a move to Windows 10 soon. I’m considering Acronis True Image 2015 with Disk Director 12 (they’re on sale) and Novastor’s Novabackup. Many reviews mention ATI 2015 failing to boot or becoming non-bootable, so should I choose Novabackup instead? Which option is more dependable?

Have you checked out Clonezilla? It's a complimentary Linux setup that runs from a DVD or CD. You can build an image of a disk or perform a disk-to-disk copy.

I'll try it out on my test system and check the results. Thanks. Does anyone else have thoughts on this subject?
