It really isn't necessary. Just keep things simple and avoid anything that seems odd. Windows Defender is already handling things, and you can disable it if you're sure. Make sure to perform a malware scan every few months—this keeps you safe without the hassle of too many background processes from an antivirus.

Honestly, I'm using AVG free version without any issues. It functions well. Most free antivirus options are actually quite good.

My setup. ZoneAlarm Firewall plus BitDefender (light scanning while you use it). I’m not sure what they mean. Probably just don’t wear your seatbelt since I’m a safe driver and unlikely to crash. Firewall.
