I've been maintaining my system for about a year now. Mostly I use it at work. As a computer repair technician, we often deal with virus scans and infections. People frequently connect and disconnect devices on our network. My machine runs only Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows Defender for 8 users) as the active antivirus. It's recommended to scan your computer at least once a month. I also use Malwarebytes, CCleaner, and Defender to clean up, followed by a De-Frag. Set a monthly reminder on your phone. A solid ad blocker helps too—AdBlock (Chrome extension) is reliable, and I've avoided fake versions. Unless you're comfortable with high virus activity, this setup keeps things safe.
