Hey everyone, looking for the top antivirus/malware scanner? I need to check all my old storage drives and merge them into something new, plus one system drive for browsing. False positives can be really bothersome.

Everyone with prominent names relies on the same shared information source, making false alarms widespread. If you have nothing else running, Windows Defender will be on standby (for Windows 10/11), ready to respond instantly if anything suspicious appears while you transfer files. You might want to bypass the scanning phase and proceed directly.

Current antivirus tools aren't very effective these days, especially with Windows Defender. Just using adblock for unwanted ads helps a lot in avoiding them. Malware remains the same, but staying cautious—avoiding suspicious websites and untrusted downloads—keeps you safe.

I suggest using Malwarebytes for malware detection and possibly Avast since I used it before. It worked well, though someone advises staying cautious when visiting unfamiliar sites and avoiding suspicious links. That’s essentially the best way to protect yourself from threats. Hope this helps!

Even for simple virus detection, Windows Defender performs adequately. The overall security measures should also be satisfactory.
