You haven't engaged with Minecraft on a gaming platform if you reference it here...

Oh no, Minecraft... The master of all poorly made games.

The unoptimized king was Crysis 1. The top performer was Half-Life 2, which worked well on nearly any system and displayed great visuals even on average machines.

Top performance. 3DFX titles showcase the power of a low-level API. I prefer Starsiege Tribes since it had superior netcode compared to BF4, especially on 56 k modems. It featured impressive jetpacks, ran incredibly fast, and felt smooth, with great vehicles and a high standard for modern FPS titles. I attribute some of the issues to the console controller. FPS games have become overly simplified and sluggish, which bothers me. The worst choice? Ubisoft releases. Their PC ports are often poorly optimized, and they seem to push certain agendas. Most of their games are single-player, usually suffering from poor performance only in large multiplayer settings. Ubisoft manages this with single-player titles, but it’s rare. The best recent release was Tomb Raider—really impressive for its era. Single-player games should generally perform well. I’d recommend World of Warcraft because it’s the only MMO that keeps players engaged without lag.

I think Crysis 3 is one of the best. It doesn't run at 120fps, but it does produce the visuals to justify the framerate. Importantly the frame delivery is silky smooth and consistent, you don't get stuttering and hiccups.
