Hello, your motherboard from 2018 supports PCIe 3.0, so you're looking for a solid AMD CPU that fits that spec. Given the performance boost from upgrading to PCIe 4.0, you might want something that still delivers good value at a reasonable price. A strong option would be the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G or the newer Ryzen 7 5800X3D, both offering solid multi-core performance and decent efficiency for your setup.

You need a different motherboard to fit a new CPU, particularly an AMD one. You can't install an AMD chip directly or even a newer Intel chip in it. What's your upgrade budget?

PCIe version 3.0 and 4.0 have minimal impact on CPU performance. For storage solutions like NVMe, the difference is negligible, though PCIe 4.0 NVMe still offers a slight edge over 3.0 in scenarios involving large data transfers. Beyond that, it mainly affects speed when switching between equally fast drives. For a motherboard using LGA-1151, only CPUs compatible with that socket can be used, making PCIe version is irrelevant.

the board accommodates PCIe 3.0 and only accepts certain intel chips, mainly the 8th and 9th generation processors. Other options won't fit physically. You can't install a core i7-10700k or a ryzen 5 2600, but it doesn't restrict you from using other models. A core i9-9900 would work best, though the vrms lack heat sinks which limits performance. The budget for upgrades is something you should consider.

The board only works with older Intel LGA1150 CPUs from the 8th and 9th generation; you can't install a new processor in it. Upgrading isn't possible.

Haha, I was hoping I didn't have to upgrade my motherboard any time soon, but I guess it's for sure inevitable if I want to keep my PC up-to-date. Now knowing that I have to purchase a new motherboard, here is around the budget: MOTHERBOARD: $60-$120 CPU: $170-240 Looking at the prices on price of an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X on Amazon it's only about $210 (before tax).

Consider a processor with eight cores for better performance when you upgrade your motherboard.

You'll likely want it either way. At $400 you'll need to bring your RAM in and stick with DDR4. PCPartPicker has the list you need: CPU, cooler, board, and RAM for the specified models. For DDR5 you'd have to go with the minimum options listed. These prices cover shipping, taxes, and any available discounts. Data compiled by PCPartPicker on September 3, 2023.
