It doesn't recognize your boot drive or the changes weren't saved to the boot sequence. You might also transfer it to a CD using an ISO installation.

I stored it completely since saving in the BIOS ensured it was preserved

Are you being asked to press a key during startup to access the boot disk? Many times I recall needing to press a button to boot from another drive.

The boot list offers two options for the stick, such as "Legacy USB drive" and "Kingston DataTraveller 111." Testing each has caused problems with two PCs—one boots the named model and the other the generic. It may relate to a BIOS setting.
