I’m not sure about what’s happening, but I’m facing problems with StarCraft Brood War (SC Remastered), Minecraft, and the Brave web browser. I can play StarCraft II without trouble. Recently I tried Dragon Age: Inquisition and the GeForce Experience setup, and I’m still experiencing the same issues. The NVIDIA Performance overlay displayed 10% GPU usage and 23% CPU usage while SCR was running, yet performance remains poor. I own a 12-year-old MSI GE72 6QF with an Apache Pro 6TB M.2 drive and a NVidiaGTX970M. I recently had to reinstall Windows due to major Blue Screen errors that made the system nearly unusable. All drivers are current, and NVidia Experience confirmed everything is up to date. When both SCBW and Minecraft are open, my graphics card stays at 98%-100% in Task Manager, but the Performance graphs show only 5%. Could it be that my laptop is using its built-in GPU instead of the dedicated one for these games? If so, what’s the solution? If not, how can I fix this? Thanks ahead. P.S., if this isn’t the right forum, please let me know.
It's about twelve years old... I haven't noticed any signs of being professionally refurbished or thoroughly cleaned. Like any device, it requires proper upkeep. Generally, reworking every five years is reasonable, but cleaning it out is essential. Both the CPU and GPU would need servicing, and it's likely the fans will also need replacement. It makes sense that after such a long time, it starts to encounter problems. I'm actually surprised it still has 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB M.2 drive—most laptops from 2012 didn't come with M.2 storage back then.
I just set up the 2tb M.2 drive, upgraded the RAM to 32GB, and performed a clean Windows install due to previous bluescreening problems. Even though it's nearly 12 years old, I’m running StarCraft II without issues—more demanding than StarCraft Brood War Remastered. The laptop was top-of-the-line when it launched, featuring USB-C, an M.2 128GB SSD, a 1TB HDD, and more. Now heating concerns have disappeared. These problems aren’t from the hardware; they seem linked to inconsistent usage patterns. For example, Brave works fine but Opera GX does not. I can handle high graphics settings for SCII but struggle with low settings for League of Legends. There’s a clear inconsistency in how the system manages graphics and interfaces. Sorry if this sounds overly critical—it’s been quite confusing lately. To clarify, I haven’t been rebuilding or modifying anything recently; my CPU performance remains stable.
