To Ram or not to Ram.
To Ram or not to Ram.
Hello, expert PC enthusiasts. I’m curious if increasing the RAM would be the most effective solution right now. My current configuration includes an X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI MOBILE system with a Ryzen 5800 CPU, 16 GB DDR4 RAM (Z 3200mt/s), a GeForce 3070 Ti graphics card, an 800W gold PSU, and a Wi-Fi booster. I’ve noticed that during more demanding games, my RAM tends to reach its limit and then slows down. Could you share your thoughts on the most suitable upgrade path? Thanks!
800w gold psu details
model, make, and age information not specified.
ram capacity reference: 32GB is typical for modern systems in 2025.
latency considerations: 2x16GB DDR4-3600MHz setup recommended.
purchase context: check compatibility with your current hardware before buying.
location details: no specific location provided.
budget and preferences: unclear from the text.
32gb of DDR4 is available near fifty dollars, which makes sense. The main factor also comes down to settings and resolution; the 3070ti only offers 8gb of VRAM, while some GPUs have 8gb or less.
Psu was acquired in 2023 and is a gold seagate. Ram I bought in 2023 as well, so I think getting the same but newer RAM might cause compatibility problems?
I updated the BIOS in 2023 after installing the new CPU, so I’d guess I should update too.
For heavy games like Escape from Tarkov, Gray Zone, and The Witcher, I run 2k for resolution.
I get my gear from Micro Center (near Minneapolis).
On a budget, it would probably be around 1k.
Task manager might give incorrect information about memory usage.
Windows keeps unused code in RAM to prepare for quick access later.
When an application attempts to use code not currently in RAM, it must retrieve it from the page file and overwrite older data, creating a hard page fault. This halts the app until the issue is resolved.
The solution may be difficult if the page file resides on a slower storage device.
In Task Manager, navigate to the Resource Monitor or Memory section.
Examine the hard fault rate column.
If values exceed zero, increasing RAM could help.
However, if you're not running multiple tasks while gaming, extra RAM might offer little benefit.
Expanding RAM isn't always effective.
It may not deliver the expected results.
Swapping is acceptable
RAM should come from a compatible package to function properly.
Check the motherboard RAM QVL list or the vendor's support list for suitable options.
Sorry, it was a picture of my specs

Would my next option for upgrading be the GPU since going from 32 to 64 for ram isn’t that beneficial?
Understanding nothing else, your CPU and GPU appear well balanced.
If the test indicated improvement with reduced settings, then a GPU upgrade would be preferable.
On the other hand, if lower specifications didn’t improve, then a CPU upgrade seems necessary.
For a substantial CPU enhancement, I believe a motherboard upgrade might also be required.
