Tips for upgrading your motherboard or CPU.
Hey everyone, I just purchased an i7 8700K/ASUS Prime Z370-A board on eBay. It’s going to replace my i5 3570K/ASRock setup. I have a few questions about RAM. Can a DDR4 kit fit? I’m planning 16GB at 3200MHz and wondering if that’s a good choice. What should I expect when swapping the motherboard and CPU? I’ll keep the rest of the hardware intact. Will Windows need a full reinstall? Any additional tips would be great!
Hello everyone, welcome aboard. We're talking about high-performance builds here—any RAM works. A 3200Mhz is solid, and I went with G. Skill Ripjaws V. Depending on your cooling setup, you can push it up to around 5Ghz if needed. It'll give you a great performance boost, making it a strong option even with new chips coming out. If you're using Microsoft, you won't need to reinstall Windows. I'd suggest formatting and starting over, but that's my style.
Ensure compatibility by visiting the board manufacturer's site for approved kits. You likely won't need to reinstall Windows, though it's wise to do so for stability.
