I'm planning to upgrade my home network by installing Cat 6 cabling, replacing the old Cat 5 setup. Each room currently has one to two Ethernet ports, so I'll need a 24-port managed switch. I also intend to add security cameras using Poe protocols and will be setting up a dedicated server in a networking room. While I'm considering Ubiquiti solutions, I'm not sure what equipment to purchase yet. Please let me know if you have any advice or questions—I'm happy to help! Thanks ahead of time!

A device similar to an edge router, paired with a PoE switch, completes the setup. Adding a few round APs makes it fully functional. I’m not entirely confident I addressed your question correctly.

I’m searching for everything I might need, realizing there’s a huge selection available. I’m not sure what I’m doing exactly, but thanks for your help! Also, I didn’t realize how much I’d have to consider with my switch.

the main tip is to stick with one brand or as many as possible from the same company, especially within the same product line. the biggest frustration with networking gear is when devices don’t work well together—sticking to a single ecosystem can save a lot of trouble. for example, if you want Ubiquity APs, choose their POE switch. if you need Linksys APs, get a Linksys POE switch (they also have a solid small business selection). and for HPE Aruba APs, expect problems either way...

I have a solid opinion on the Linksys setup, and I've noticed it can be quite frustrating due to its limited choices.
