Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on a gift for my big brother. Right now I can only afford the steering wheel and plan to add the rest later. I’d also like something compatible with PC, PS4, and possibly PS5. My budget is about 200 euros for setup in Italy, and I’m not very familiar with sim racing, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

The challenge you'll face with a piecemeal approach compared to a complete kit is that modular racing wheels tend to be more professional-grade and costly. A single wheel plus base can easily cost several hundred to a thousand euros. On the cheaper side, options like the PXN V9 include a wheel, three pedals, and an H shifter for around 200 euros, though they are mostly made of plastic and don’t match the durability of brands such as Logitech or Thrustmaster. Amazon.it offers it, but reviews are limited and the rating isn’t strong.

The challenge you'll face with a piecemeal approach versus opting for a complete kit is that modular racing wheels tend to be more suited for professional use and come at a higher cost. A single wheel plus base can easily reach several hundred to a thousand euros.

For those on a tighter budget, options like the PXN V9 kit are available for around 200 euros, though it mainly consists of plastic parts and doesn’t match the durability of brands such as Logitech or Thrustmaster. It’s sold on Amazon.it, but reviews are sparse and the rating isn’t strong.

Fanatec is a premium brand focused on modular designs, but finding their products in Italy can be tough—Amazon.it lists wheels for 659 euros, while US listings show prices in the hundreds. You’d likely need to import everything and expect a steep price.

If you’re open to alternatives, the Logitech G29 kit is a solid choice at about 259 euros, including a three-pedal set and metal shifters. It features metal pedals, paddle shifters, and leather grips, and works across the platforms you mentioned.

Many players opt for paddle shifters for their feel and compatibility with various games, especially when racing older or less advanced vehicles. A separate H Shifter is available for 49 euros and pairs well with the G29 kit.

Logitech also offers a standalone H Shifter that matches the G29 model for 76 euros, enhancing customization options.

Keep in mind that while Logitech is reputable and has good support, it’s wise to verify which titles are compatible with any wheel you purchase.

Thank you for your assistance! I just discovered that the Thrustmaster T150 RS is currently available at 132 euros. How much better would it be compared to the Logitech G29? Or might it offer a reasonable balance? Thanks again!

If it's just a T150 RS, I wouldn't go for the kit. But if it's the T150 RS Pro, the kit includes a metal pedal set versus plastic on the 2 pedal set. Make sure you're getting a pro set before purchasing.

In general, I still think the quality and compatibility would be better with the G29. I'm also unsure if the sale you mentioned is in Italy since Amazon.it prices don't reflect such a deal. I noticed that at least one of the links I shared isn't consistently pointing to amazon.it, but rather to amazon.com (at least for me), so sorry if this caused confusion.

It's really tough to do this kind of research from far away in the states. If you're in Italy, look for deals on the Logitech G29. If you're there, you'll likely find more options than I can from up here. Also remember that it really counts a lot whether you can get a full refund within a month, and usually up to two months during the holidays, which is why I recommended Amazon.

I recommend waiting until Black Friday to get a G29/290 setup. A few years back I managed to acquire the wheel, shifter, and 3 pedal base for around £119, which is about €140-€150. This was during the January sales, but I hope something similar will be available on Black Friday. I also purchased a Playseat Challenge at a discount and ended up with a very enjoyable setup for under £300.

NOICE!! But which country did you buy it from? Also, a few years ago versus now means there wasn't a global pandemic issue, so yes, I'd think things were better back then.

I purchased in the UK with taxes similar to those across Europe. The G29/G290 are often discounted at a few stores this time around. It will be interesting to observe the electronic offers during this year's BF. There have been some excellent pre-BF deals on RAM, SSDs, and other PC accessories, though I haven’t seen anything for a G29/290 setup yet.
