Tips for setting up a private network on a college campus.
Hi everyone, I'm looking into setting up a private network in my room for my Sonos Play 1, Echo Dot, and FireTV. The college uses WPA2-Enterprise Wi-Fi, so I want to connect these devices securely. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this setup or has suggestions for affordable routers or repeaters that could work well. My room’s Ethernet connection seems unreliable—my wall port isn’t functioning properly, though facilities might be able to help. I’d prefer not to route all my TV traffic through my desktop computer and want a solution that keeps things efficient. Could someone share any tips or alternatives? Thanks!
Contact your campus IT team first. I previously worked with their department; they didn’t permit personal routers or switches, and disconnecting the port or AP was standard when they were identified.
