Tips for selecting CPU, motherboard, and RAM.
Hello everyone, I'm considering upgrading from a 1231v3 with 16GB DDR3@1600MHz to an R5 3600 with 16GB DDR4@3000MHz. I'm looking into the MSI B450 Mortar Max or the MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max. Any tips or insights? Also, how significant do you think the improvement will be? I currently have a RTX 2060 and mainly use my PC for gaming (RPGs like Witcher and Metro) and 3D modeling with Blender. The upgrade costs around €350, and I plan to sell my old parts for €200-€250. Any advice?
For intense gaming sessions, choose the i9900KS and push it to 5Ghz. If you spend most of your time coding or running demanding multithreaded programs, opt for the 3900x. These CPUs are similar in cost, but the i9900KS is ideal for gaming.
The i9 9900ks is way over budget? OP is looking at the R5 3600. Either way for gaming it will be an upgrade over the 1231v3, and MSI motherboards are solid.
The 3600 works well with a 5700XT or 2060. Using a GPU above the CPU limits performance.
I’m aiming for a solid value boost rather than something extreme. Both options seem okay to me. The mortar comes a bit pricier, but I don’t mind the look of the gaming plus.
It's helpful when examples are limited in size. I also own both an mATX and an ITX setup.
