Hello, I've reviewed the details about your ThinkPad E460. It runs on an Intel Core i7-6500U and has 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Intel lists support for DDR4-2133, LPDDR3-1866, and DDR3L-1600, while Lenovo specifies compatibility with up to 16GB of DDR3L at 1600MHz. The E460 uses a SoC platform with dual-channel capability and two SO-DIMM slots. It seems the device doesn't support faster RAM types like DDR4-2133 or DDR4-2666, possibly because Lenovo has disabled that feature for compatibility reasons. BIOS protection is turned off. There’s little you can do unless the system has an overclocking option, which is rare on most laptops.

Memory speed and timing are fixed by the BIOS. It seems they didn’t plan for faster memory, which might affect trace layout. The CPU can manage it because Intel introduced IMC in Haswell, though the board itself likely can’t.
