Yesterday I purchased Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and realized I’m struggling with the game. I need to completely re-learn how to play an FPS and my previous skills aren’t enough. Do you have any useful tips that could help me become a top-tier CSGO player?

others often suggest spending a lot of time in Deathmatch to sharpen your skills. Since you're just starting out, watching experienced players can be really beneficial. You might want to check out Summit1g on Twitch—he streams regularly. There are also Pro League matches being broadcasted on Twitch that could be very useful.

The match doesn't help with accuracy; it's more about where the crosshair lands. I checked the playlist link but skipped the three and four videos.

Here are some key points to grasp: Understanding the routes between locations, recognizing enemy positions, and knowing their movements are essential. Without this knowledge, you're largely ineffective because you can't predict where threats will appear or when they'll strike. Practice aiming frequently—even experts rehearse before competitive matches. Learn common weapon patterns so you don’t accidentally hit the legs while they fire at you. Avoid shooting and running simultaneously. Utilize smoke to obscure paths and flashes to regain control of contested areas. Focus on objectives rather than just taking damage; winning points matters more than survival. Share information with teammates, even if communication is challenging—clear updates boost team success. Watching live streams like Dreamhack Summer on Twitch can provide valuable insights into strategies and mindset. Apologies if my English was unclear.

Think about how to connect with others. Instead of hiding in the middle of the hallway and firing, consider positioning yourself near a wall for better visibility. When using the AK47, press the LMB to aim and fire. With the M4A4, hold down the trigger only briefly—don’t hold it too long. Adjust your aim based on distance and situation.

Generally, close range calls for headshots or quick bursts if recoil control isn’t possible, especially with multiple targets. Mastering the spray pattern is essential for accuracy. At longer ranges, you should angle sideways and fire a few rounds in between. Sometimes lowering to crouch works well when aiming from medium distances—most enemies target your head, so it’s usually better to stay upright. This video covers it clearly. I recommend checking out DreamHack for more tips. The final match of the day is approaching now at http://www.twitch.tv/dreamhackcs, and the playoffs start tomorrow. Watching pro games from their perspective really enhances your understanding.
