Recently set up Linux Mint 19 on my PC using dual boot—separate drives for HDD and SSD. Windows runs on the other drive. I picked Mint because it’s known for being user-friendly, aiming to ease me into the Linux community. Any advice for long-time Linux users starting out in the open-source world? I’m fairly experienced but haven’t fully immersed myself yet. Thanks!

I focus on advanced topics beyond everyday browsing and editing. I’m open to experimenting with personal server configurations for practice. Ethical hacking feels outdated online, but I’m eager to explore open-source Linux concepts. Considering a shift to Ubuntu seems like a good direction.

Can't offer much assistance, but you might find some online CTF competitions useful. Those are the places where I've spent a lot of time cracking, injecting, and "hacking." Maybe look for a project you like—like Lutris?

I'm facing the same challenge. I had extra server components and gear at work and combined them. I have two xeons and 200GB of RAID 1 storage, running Ubuntu Server. I'm using SAMBA to set up a network file share so devices like Raspberry Pi can access it. It's essentially a DIY solution that could save us a lot compared to buying ready-made products.

For those interested in Linux and foss software, the best resource is linuxfromscratch.org.
