Tips for headphones when listening to music and playing games occasionally
I recently finished my studies and decided to enhance my current wireless headphones (JBL Everest 700) for daily use, enjoying a lot of music and occasionally playing games (cs:go) on my desktop setup.
The music I enjoy is primarily rap and R&B, with a preference for bass-heavy tracks due to the production quality and background effects.
My existing JBL headphones were satisfactory, but I’m not sure about alternatives. My friends often mention that I don’t pick up directional audio cues in games, which might point to an issue with the current model. The sound quality remains good.
I don’t own an AMP or a DAC, and I’m unsure whether I need them.
My budget is around €800, though it could vary depending on what I choose.
I already have a wireless modmic, so a headset with a built-in mic isn’t essential for me.
After researching, I discovered several options such as the B&O H95, BW PX8, and Focal Bathys. However, these seem more cumbersome to wear over long gaming sessions. That’s why I began considering purchasing two headsets—one for gaming and another for music.
For instance, a wired option like the Beyerdynamic DT 880 or HD660S could work well during games, followed by the B&O H95 for everyday listening and music.
I’m a bit hesitant about spending a lot on the H95, especially since the components aren’t easily replaceable. I’d still like to use it for at least ten years. Nevertheless, I appreciate the sound quality, build, and the metal case included.
What other choices should I explore? Or is there a single headphone that could satisfy all my needs? I’m open to having two separate headsets if it would improve both music and gaming experience. I really enjoy the freedom of wireless headphones, but if I have to compromise on comfort or durability for better performance, I’d need to decide.
if you intend to buy online, it’s wise to visit electronics stores or computer shops in person and try different models to understand what’s available.
the first few items i bought were based solely on reviews and specifications without any physical experience.
this led me to slightly uncomfortable products since i wasn’t sure about the exact ear type and weight requirements for my personal needs.
