Tips for enhancing memory performance
Using this board with the current memory setup. I’m considering adding two more 8Gb sticks instead of swapping them for two new 16Gb sticks. I’m unsure if that would be as effective. It’s unclear whether the board supports quad-channel and how adding four sticks would affect performance compared to two.
Consumer boards generally offer only dual channel functionality, even with multiple slots available. Each channel contains two DIMMs and four connectors. Using four sticks per channel can be more challenging for the CPU memory controller, potentially limiting performance compared to using two 16-pin headers. If you use four single-rank sticks, the benefit of dual rank becomes more noticeable, reducing latency. This advantage would also apply with dual-rank 2x16 sticks, though most products now use single-rank configurations.
It seems the statement about running XMP with multiple sticks needs more detail. Generally, newer CPUs handle multiple sticks well, though older models might struggle. Running XMP on four sticks is usually fine, and most modern systems don’t encounter problems.
