The cashier is new, and they explained that if you wish for the free gift (the Far Cry 6 game code), the item will be treated as a final sale. I hope you're in Winnipeg—I'd pay you for it. I visited for a 5800x (possibly the 20th in line), but both 5900 and 5800 were sold out, leaving only 5600x available. I signed up to get notified when the 5800x becomes available again.

I don’t understand much. I noticed the cashier treated another customer in the same way. From what I saw, she seemed to be purchasing something for someone else—she cut the seal, opened the box, handed her the CPU (still inside the clear plastic), and asked them to check it. Her expression indicated she wasn’t sure what she was looking at. I didn’t observe any other cashiers doing the same thing.

In the USA, that's illegal. I'd be surprised if it wasn't in Canada as well. Unless they're selling them as "open box", they can't open them before the customer buys it.
Absolutely not, I won't rush there that soon. I'm aiming for 9:30 AM at the latest, and I'll just sign up for the 20th spot later. I'm putting together a complete PC, so I'll likely be back on Black Friday to snag discounts on the remaining components. I don't think I'll get a new machine this month anyway.
