Purchased two distinct RAM modules at different times, assuming they were identical. Set 1: 16-20-20-38, Set 2: 16-18-18-36. Both use 1.35v and 3200MHz, installed properly, but only 16GB appears detected. Investigation revealed manually adjusting RAM timings in BIOS to looser settings, XMP disabled. Reported speed is 2133MHz. How can I make all 32GB of RAM show up? Thanks ahead.

The new kit and individual sticks are designed to be clearly identified.

I verified every one of the four slots and each individual stick. All were successfully detected.

Timing values relate to delay rather than data transfer rate. A higher number indicates greater delay, while a lower number shows less delay. Differences beyond speed and timing aren’t always obvious in the documentation, leading to incompatibility. You also can’t adjust these settings. It’s unclear whether pairing only old or new modules works—what about mixing one old and one new per channel? How were the modules combined: all old in one channel or all new in another? This suggests that timing data for channel A isn’t being recognized, whereas channel B shows tighter (lower) values than expected. My assumption is the modules in channel A don’t align with those timing requirements.

they might actually fit in the incorrect positions, since otherwise it would function fine; it will simply default to the lowest speed and slowest timings. To be precise, kit A needs slots 1 and 3, while kit B should occupy 2 and 4. Also reset the CMOS before attempting this setup—no changes required in BIOS.

I wasn't familiar with CHA and CHB, but your advice helped a lot. Thanks for the suggestion! @Mark Kaine The issue is now resolved. Appreciate your input. Solution updated BIOS settings to AUTO. I only used the slower RAM in slots 1 and 3, turned on XMP, and everything worked. The order of insertion and XMP activation might have affected the outcome.
