You often notice the screen going blank and turning off quickly, but sometimes I’m pulled away from my PC and realize the display is still active for hours. I tried a tool to force shutdown, but it only makes the screen stay black briefly before flickering again. The joystick connected was reported problematic, yet disconnecting it didn’t fix the issue. Could you suggest any next steps or checks? Thanks! Luc

Do you have steam installed? It's likely steamwebhelper.exe that's affecting your issue. If not, run the command in powershell or cmd as admin "powercfg -energy" after it finishes (it takes 60 sec). Then type ".\energy-report.html" without quotes. The report will show you what's causing your screen to stay on.

When the issue arises from steamwebhelper.exe, apply the command "powercfg -REQUESTSOVERRIDE PROCESS steamwebhelper.exe Display System Awaymode" to bypass it.

Thanks for the advice on using the -energy command! I ended up with a long list of possible power drains. Steam isn’t listed even though it’s installed, and I tried stopping all the .exe files via taskmgr but the issue remains. I’ve attached the file here in case you want to review energy-report.html.

Open event logs via Start → Search. Load them and wait for completion. Click Windows Logs → System. Filter current logs on the right panel. Choose Event Source: Power troubleshooting and click OK. In the center, review the log when your PC started and examine details to locate the wake source. If this doesn’t help, let me know more details.

I also reviewed your report and didn’t find any elements that might trigger it. It could be a faulty mouse or another device connected to the port. You might want to disconnect items one at a time. Additionally, using the command "powercfg /requests" in powercfg might help identify issues.
