I managed to locate an RX580 model for less than $200 with 8GB of RAM. I prefer investing more in a top-tier CPU or motherboard setup, since most of my games only reach around 60% of the integrated graphics performance, except during short bursts. The main problem is that many games are extremely CPU-intensive. Hearts of Iron IV is particularly slow on the CPU, often using just one core while others are offloaded. RX580 priced under $200 offers an incredible offer. I owned one before and the driver plus management tools are far more advanced than those from NVIDIA. In short, AMD: high-end performance for your setup; NVIDIA: raw computing strength. For a future-proof setup, I’d still recommend the 2060 desktop.
I'm likely to upgrade around 2060 or 2080, but after some conversations it looks like a CPU/mobo upgrade would help more. It seems like waiting until fall might give me a better deal on older models. I'm considering getting a better price on current-gen parts once the next-gen line comes out.
